Meet Alex Evans: Wine, life, and the things that matter

I'm not a somm, but I've spent more than half my life in the wine industry, and I've learned a thing or two about what really matters when it comes to wine.

As CMO at Precept Wine, I get to work with amazing people who make incredible wine, and honestly, that's the best part of this job. Because here's what I've figured out over the years: wine isn't really about the wine. It's about the people. The conversations. The moments when everyone's laughing and someone says, "We should do this more often," and actually means it.

What I'm drinking right now

1. Gigi's Red Blend
This is my transition wine from summer to fall. I drink it chilled, which probably makes some people cringe, but I promise it's perfect that way.

2. Sans Soufre
A lot of my friends have been cutting back on red wine for health reasons, and this no-sulfites option has become their new favorite. Sometimes the best wine is the one that lets you keep drinking wine.

3. Icon Viognier
Fragrant but oily in the best possible way. There's this gorgeous texture that just draws you in.

Getting personal

First wine memory?
Watching Falcon Crest in the '80s and having a serious crush on Lorenzo Lamas. Not exactly sophisticated, but it planted the seed.

Famous figure you most identify with?
Martha Stewart in my business life, but without the mean demeanor and jail time. I love the attention to detail and the way she builds lifestyle around product.

Greatest extravagance?
Daydreaming and Cowichan sweaters. One feeds the soul, the other keeps me cozy while I'm doing it.

What draws me to wine

I fell in love with wine because of the beauty and diversity of the land and the fascinating people involved in every step from vineyard to table. But mostly, wine encourages people to gather with family, friends, and loved ones, and that's at the top of my priority list these days.

You'll love these wines, I promise.
